Today begins the season of Advent. Kathryn shared this in our newsletter, “Advent means arrival. It comes from the Latin word adventus. It refers to the arrival of Jesus. *Advent is different from Christmas. Advent has a separate time and purpose. Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Advent is considered a time of preparedness for His coming. (Much the same way we prepare for a special guest to enter our home, but He is entering our hearts, to stay!) *When did it begin? No one knows! The truth is no one knows for certain when the season of Advent started. Some believe it originated as a period of fasting before Christmas. Others say Advent was a time of preparedness before the feast of Epiphany. *Advent dates change. Advent begins 4 Sundays before Christmas. Unlike the “Advent Calendar” many of us purchase, it rarely starts on December 1st”.
Join us today for Adult Sunday School at 10:30 and Worship and Children’s Church at 11:15 as we begin preparing for Christ’s coming! Make sure and join us next Sunday for a service of Music and Communion at 11:15 AM!
