Today we celebrate Trinity Sunday and give thanks for God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is a day in which the church celebrates the mystery of God, that God is one in three and three in one all at once.
God, Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens ~ HOLY MANNA
Dave Caudill, Carillonneur ~ 48-bell Paccard carillon, Idlewild Presbyterian, Memphis
Video/audio ~ Chip Houston
The Presbyterian Hymnal, page 268
Text: Catherine Camerson, 1967, alt. Music: Attr. William Moore, 1825;
harm. Charles Anders, 1969
The text from the mid-1960s represents an important moment in the broadening
of human awareness, as the achievements of modern science and the widespread
increase in urban development affected with new urgency how people understood
themselves and their place in the world.
How Great Thou Art ~ O STORE GUD
The Houston Quartet ~ Chip Houston, vocals; Dave Caudill, piano
The Presbyterian Hymnal, page 467
Text: Carl Gustav Boberg, 1885; English version: Stuart K. Hine, 1953;
Transliteration of Korean: Myung Ja Yue, 1989
Music: Swedish folk melody; Harm. Stuart K. Hine, 1949
This tuneful retelling of the salvation story began in Swedish and was translated
into German and then in Russian before reaching its English form. Despite such
linguistic and musical revisions, it continues to be a meaningful source of comfort
to many people.
