Maundy Thursday

Today is Maundy Thursday the day we commemorate the Last Supper and Jesus washing the disciples feet. The word Maundy isn’t one we use often. It is an Anglo-French word derived from the Latin word for “commandment.”  Today we both remember and celebrate Jesus commandment to love one another as Jesus has loved us.

Jesus loved humanity so much that he became a servant to all even the one who would betray him when he washed the disciples feet. On the night before he would die, Jesus broke bread and drank from the cup  at his last meal in the upper room. He shared that meal with those gathered at the table and believers throughout the ages offering us his body and the blood of the new covenant which he poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Take time today to remember how much Jesus loves you. While you stay safer at home break bread and drink from the cup while you remember once again all that Jesus has given for the world.

Praying blessings of peace in the midst of chaos, comfort from the one who understands our fears and pain, and love from our Lord Jesus Christ who is with us always.
